This will be good to remember on your next payday prepper haul. None of these items are related to each other and they're not in any particular order, but I think that they are all important.
Laundry soap and a way to do laundry off grid. I have a portable, non-electric washing machine. Here's where you can get one: Amazon.com: The Laundry Alternative, WonderWash, Portable Washing Machine, Mini Washer, Compact and Non- Electric, Mint Green : Appliances
This washer is pretty small, but it'll work for you in a pinch.
You can also make your own laundry soap.
INGREDIENTS:
1 bar Fels Naptha soap
2 cups washing soda
1 cup baking soda
Directions:
Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container.
Use 1/4 cup per large load (adjust accordingly, especially for high-efficiency washers, for which you may want to wait until the water runs through soap dispenser).
For the smaller, non-electric washer as shown, I'd just use about 1 tsp.
2. Pet food (and litter if you have cats).
We love our animals. There's no doubt about that. So, we should prep for them too. Some people prefer to make their own pet food, which is preferable because of all the crap that's in commercially processed food. If that person is you, you'll want to preserve it. If it's wet food, can it. If it's dry food, mylar it with O2 absorbers and heat seal.
3. Lighters.
Obviously, lighters will be essential. If the lights go out and you need fire to cook or stay warm, you'll need some stashed away for emergencies. Add matches to that too.
4. Feminine Products.
I know it's not everyone's favorite thing to discuss, but nevertheless, it's an important item to stock up on.
5. Diapers and Baby Wipes.
Another obvious item to have. But did you know that you should stock up on diapers even if you don't have small children? Most of the diapers made today are filled with absorbent beads. They absorb moisture and expand. This is why your baby looks like it's a mini-Kim Kardashian. You can cut those beads out of the diaper and sprinkle them in a potted plant. They'll help keep the dirt moist.
6. Manual Can Openers.
Get more than one. Remember that one is none and two is one. Always have backups for your backups.
7. Board Games.
When the lights go out, you'll want something for entertainment. Board games and playing cards are perfect for that type of situation. You can also get word search books, crosswords, etc.
8. Auto Parts.
If by some chance you can't get to a repair shop, you'll need parts to fix your vehicle. Air and oil filters, spark plugs, extra oil and gas, etc. If you can, buy an extra set of tires (and lug nuts). Also, extra tools for specific repairs.
9. Spare eyeglasses.
It's always a good idea to have a spare set of eyeglasses. I have to have reading glasses, so I keep about 5 pairs stashed away.
10. Socks and underwear.
These items are generally overlooked. You'll regret it if you don't have a nice pair of socks on in the winter if the power is out. Underwear, same.
All these items are things that I feel like people don't really think about when it comes to prepping. Anything you can stock up on is great but try to remember what you use daily. Items that might be taken for granted or used out of habit without thinking.
I hope this list is helpful to you on your prepping journey.
Thank you for stopping by!
