I've been hearing that this winter is going to be a rough one. So, I've compiled a list of items for you so you can be better prepared.
Take a look at Europe. The price of fuel is outrageous. Those people over there will literally have to choose to "heat or eat". I don't want the same to happen here, but unfortunately, it will. But you don't have to if you prepare. Now, on to the list.
Fortify your home. Check everywhere there might be air leakage and get that taken care of.
Create Microclimates or microenvironments. This is in case you don't have an extra source of heat such as a fireplace. This will sound cooky, but put up a tent in your living room and sleep in it at night. Another idea is if you have bunkbeds, you can take a big blanket and cover the whole thing creating a makeshift tent.
Stock up on warm clothes, hats, socks and blankets. Also, sleeping bags.
Alternative heat and fuel. Woodburning stove, Buddy heaters, propane, etc.
Emergency lighting. Flashlights, candles, oil lamps, solar powered lights (hybrid lights), etc.
Backup power for critical devices. Generators, solar power station, etc. Also, make sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Stock up on shelf-stable foods. Also, stock up on things like hot coco or tea to be served warm.
Have alternative cooking methods. (This is actually coming up in a near future Rabbit Hole Net so stay tuned for that!) Fireplaces are a great way to heat your food. Get a Dutch oven. That can be placed right over the fire. Sterno cannisters are also a great way to heat your food.
Build a backup plan with friends and neighbors. This will not work for some, well us in particular, because we don't know our neighbors. Everyone around us just sticks to themselves, but for some of you that have good relationships with your neighbors, this will be a good idea.
Stock up on medications. OTC's in particular. Even if you don't get sick this winter, someone else might benefit from these meds. It's always a good idea to keep your meds stocked up.
I hope this has been informative and helpful to you and I hope you will consider implementing some of these ideas.
My source for these actions is The Provident Prepper on YouTube. They have such good information on prepping that you can apply to your own lifestyle.
